Do you have a dry skin care routine?
Dry skin care is different from normal skin care! Since I used to have very dry skin myself I’ll share some of my thoughts today. If you too are a sufferer you know it can be tight and very itchy. Sebum production is low in dry skin. A healthy production of sebum functions as the body’s own skin cream. It protects the skin and makes it softer. Dry skin also seems to bind moisture less well than normal skin.
When showering or bathing to often the skin can be depleted of its natural lipids and moisture. If you shower more than once a day it increases the risk to get eczema. The risk becomes even bigger if you use a soap that is too alkaline. You don’t want that! I’ll make a video soon where I’ll show you just HOW alkaline common soaps are.
Dry skin is more common in older people. That’s because the sebum and moisture binding ability deteriorates with age. Most often, the skin of the elbows, knees, shins, hands and feet the worst affected. For me it was my hands, face, upper arms/shoulders and shins. My shins had a typical crocodile-like pattern. And my hand would get a “sandy” dry texture after washing. I could not touch things out of discomfort. Without a cream in my bag i would panic!
Some people are afraid the skin can get used to being smeared with lotion, cream or ointments. They fear it will stop forming sebum. That is a partially a myth. I say partially as it is tied to what kinds of creams you use. If you use creams with mineral oil in them, you do hurt your skin. But if you use a supportive lotion, it does not matter if you rub yourself every day. As a matter of fact, when you have severely dry skin you should use good, high quality creams every day. Because when you stop using it, your skin will be as it was before you began to moisturize it.
To understand what mineral oil does to your skin, put your name and email in the form to the right. It could be that you actually you have normal skin, but the dryness comes from the WRONG creams and you are in a downward spiral. With mineral oil in your dry skin care routine you will never get better. Only worse!
